Former Deputy General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, has tipped Ghana’s Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to become Ghana’s second United Nations Secretary-General.
According to Nana Obiri Boahen, he envisages Dr Bawumia leading the UN after serving two terms in office as the President of Ghana.
Nana Obiri Boahen made his submissions during an appearance on Wontumi TV Monday, September 5th 2022.
The former NPP Deputy General Secretary touted the achievements of Dr Bawumia as a reason for him to become Ghana’s next President.
According to him, every nook and cranny of Ghanaian society has now been ‘Bawumiazed’ through the digitalisation agenda heavily pushed by the Vice President.
“[We currently have] Bawumianisation of the system. Today, when going to the stadium to watch a match, [you purchase an] e-ticket. When he wasn’t on the scene in Ghana, did we have all these innovations? When he wasn’t on the national scene, the name Bawumia or Bawumianisaiton of the system was not around.
“So when I take it upon myself that I’m supporting such a person, I do not only plan to see him as a Ghanaian leader, as long as I live I plan to make him a global leader and a future leader of the United Nations,” Obiri Boahen said.
He cited a former Burmese leader who served as both President and later a UN Secretary-General to make his point.
Obiri Boahen added that Dr Bawumia is a great asset to Ghana and he plans for the whole world to also have access to his great mind by supporting him to become a UN secretary-general.
