Attempts by the electoral Commission to use Ghana card as a source document for registration is facing opposition from the Minority NDC.
The electoral Commission recently announced that, it intend to use the Ghana card as a source document for registration ahead of the 2024 elections.
But, according to the Minority leader, the NDC will resist attempts by the electoral Commission to use the Ghana card as source document.
The EC indicated that, there guarantor system will not more be use to register voters as it is difficult to detect minors and foreigners.
The NDC is however opposed to the decision as it argues that, the decision will disenfranchise a lot Ghanaians.
The NDC further argues that, majority of Ghanaians are yet to acquire the Ghana card and the EC decision will deny them the opportunity to register.
This will definitely become another point of disagreement between the NDC and the electoral Commission ahead of the 2024 general elections.
This may lead to another legal action by the NDC as it will use all legitimate means resist this decision by the electoral Commission.
The electoral Commission has appealed to the National Identification Authority to speed up the process of printing cards .
Meanwhile, the ruling New Patriotic Party has backed the decision the electoral Commission to use the Ghana card as a source document.
The NPP described the decision as a step in the right direction
